Vascular Access Kit
The Vascular Access Kit measures 7 inches high, 6 inches wide, and 1.75 inches deep, containing components necessary for peripheral intravenous line establishment and fluid administration minus the fluid bags themselves. The kit includes two 18-gauge by 1.25-inch IV catheters with safety mechanisms that retract needles after venipuncture to prevent accidental needlestick injuries. An 18-gauge by 1.5-inch hypodermic needle facilitates fluid bag spiking and medication preparation.
A latex-free tourniquet applies venous occlusion pressure during catheter insertion, while two alcohol preparation pads provide site disinfection before needle penetration. The Smartsite adapter functions as a saline lock allowing intermittent medication administration without continuous fluid infusion. Tegaderm transparent film dressing measures 2.375 x 2.75 inches and secures catheter insertion sites while permitting visual inspection for infiltration or phlebitis signs. Two 2×2-inch sterile gauze pads absorb blood from insertion sites. All components pack in a resealable clear plastic pouch with labeled compartments for rapid item identification.
