Vascular Access Kit

The Vascular Access Kit measures 7 inches high, 6 inches wide, and 1.75 inches deep, containing components necessary for peripheral intravenous line establishment and fluid administration minus the fluid bags themselves. The kit includes two 18-gauge by 1.25-inch IV catheters with safety mechanisms that retract needles after venipuncture to prevent accidental needlestick injuries. An 18-gauge by 1.5-inch hypodermic needle facilitates fluid bag spiking and medication preparation.

A latex-free tourniquet applies venous occlusion pressure during catheter insertion, while two alcohol preparation pads provide site disinfection before needle penetration. The Smartsite adapter functions as a saline lock allowing intermittent medication administration without continuous fluid infusion. Tegaderm transparent film dressing measures 2.375 x 2.75 inches and secures catheter insertion sites while permitting visual inspection for infiltration or phlebitis signs. Two 2×2-inch sterile gauze pads absorb blood from insertion sites. All components pack in a resealable clear plastic pouch with labeled compartments for rapid item identification.

Combat medics carry the Vascular Access Kit during prolonged casualty care scenarios where shock treatment requires volume resuscitation beyond oral rehydration capabilities. Air force pararescue personnel pack them in medical rucksacks for extended patient care during helicopter delays. Army forward surgical teams maintain multiple kits for simultaneous casualty processing during surge operations.

Tactical Supply Pakistan provides pre-assembled medical kits that standardize procedural equipment across units and reduce preparation time during emergency vascular access establishment under combat conditions.

Why doesn’t this kit include IV fluid bags?
Fluid selection depends on patient presentation, injury mechanism, and protocol variations. Medics stock appropriate fluids separately based on mission medical threat assessments and transport duration requirements.
