The Missile Approach Confirmation Sensor (MACS) is a compact, fully stabilized radar sensor housed in a 35 × 30 × 14 cm enclosure, weighing approximately 5.5 kg. It features a Ka-band high-power Doppler radar transmitter operating with a narrow beam to detect and confirm incoming missile threats. The device pivots rapidly toward the alert direction upon activation, with a passive cooling design and steady-state power consumption around 70 W. It offers full 360° azimuth coverage and elevation from +35° to –90°, ensuring comprehensive spherical awareness.
Activated following an initial alert from a missile warning system (e.g., MILDS), MACS verifies genuine threats by measuring target velocity and distance in real time. It calculates exact time-to-impact, enabling automatic or manual countermeasure deployment. The system drastically reduces false alarm rates, achieving better than one false alarm in 5,000 flight hours, while preserving the initial warning timeline.
