NDIR infrared methane sensors measure CH4 concentration through absorption of infrared light at the 3.3 µm C-H stretch absorption band. They project IR light through a sample gas volume inside a measurement cell. The photodetector measures intensity reduction at this wavelength. The sensor converts this attenuation to a ppm or %LEL concentration reading. Furthermore, this principle is continuous, non-consumptive, and immune to the catalytic poisoning that disables pellistor sensors on exposure to silicone, halogen, and lead compounds in industrial environments.

Dual-wavelength reference designs add a second detector at a non-absorbing wavelength. The ratio between sample and reference signals cancels source aging, temperature variation, and optical cell fouling. As a result, NDIR methane sensors maintain calibration accuracy across 5 to 10 year service intervals — reducing recalibration visits and maintenance costs across large fixed detector installations significantly compared to catalytic bead alternatives.

Open-path NDIR methane detectors project an IR beam across distances from 5 to 200 meters between transmitter and receiver units. They detect diffuse methane cloud releases across large open process areas that point detectors cannot cover from fixed mounting positions. Moreover, portable handheld NDIR methane analyzers deliver ppm-level readings for confined space pre-entry surveys, pipeline leak investigation, and spot-check compliance monitoring without fixed detector infrastructure.

These sensors serve Pakistan’s SSGC and SNGPL gas distribution networks, OGDCL and PPL upstream processing facilities in Sindh and Balochistan, WAPDA gas turbine power stations, LPG storage and distribution operators, and fertilizer manufacturing plants in Multan and Lahore requiring accurate, long-life methane detection across fixed area monitoring and portable survey applications.

Tactical Supply Pakistan supplies NDIR infrared methane sensors for pipeline safety monitoring, industrial hazardous area detection, and gas facility leak survey procurement across Pakistan.
