Radiological Detection System

The Ludlum Radiological Detection System (AN/PDR-83) is a NATO-stocked (NSN 6665-01-671-4539) modular radiation detection platform featuring a common base unit with smart probe technology supporting six interchangeable probes — Alpha-Beta (100 keV–5 MeV), Sensitive Gamma (50 keV–1.5 MeV), Neutron (thermal to 15 MeV), FIDLER (13–220 keV for U-235/Am-241), Beta-Photon (0.1 µGy/hr to 100 Gy/hr), and ABG Pancake — with 45+ hours data logging, GPS/date/time stamping, stealth mode, headset audio, glove-compatible ergonomic design, and AA battery power, developed as the approved replacement to the AN/PDR-77 following Operation Tomodachi at Fukushima.
